Located on the island of Fournoi in the Aegean Sea, the project arises from a deep dialogue with the local context. Fournoi is marked by a strong architectural identity, composed of small-scale white houses, narrow cobblestone streets, and churches that punctuate the landscape with their domes and bell towers. Within this setting, the... 4-star hotel with approximately 1,500 m² of built area. it was conceived as a contemporary micro-village, organically integrated into the existing urban fabric and sensitive to the topography and scale of the site.
The central concept is based on preservation and reinterpretation of local characteristics, The design incorporates both formal and material aspects. The complex unfolds on multiple levels, following the natural slope of the terrain and avoiding artificial earthworks. Pedestrian circulation is a structuring element of the proposal: fluid, continuous, and intuitive, it resembles a path through an internal village street, establishing a constant relationship between architecture, landscape, and neighborhood.
The complex is organized into four main volumes, The levels are arranged in a staggered manner. Entry is at the lowest point of the site, and the path gradually leads the visitor to the upper levels. At the heart of the project lies a... central square, The plaza is the unifying element of the entire complex. Surrounded by buildings, the plaza houses the swimming pool and functions as a meeting place, a space for socializing and relaxing, as well as acting as a visual landmark along the route, reinforcing the logic of a fragmented yet cohesive urban fabric.
The placement between two existing churches played a decisive role in shaping the overall volume. The vertical volumes of the project were carefully positioned to... Do not block the visual axes. not just to ignore these religious landmarks, but to engage in dialogue with them, respecting their presence in the landscape.
The units were individually designed, offering distinct experiences to guests. Most feature... views of the Aegean Sea or the mountains, In addition to private balconies and terraces that expand the interior spaces and reinforce the connection with the natural environment, the volumetric fragmentation ensures privacy, promotes cross-ventilation, and reduces the overall visual impact.
Located in the basement of the building is a spa, conceived as a space for well-being and relaxation, integrated into the environmental logic of the project. In addition to its programmatic function, the basement houses the water storage and control infrastructure, functioning as a cistern and a strategic element for the hotel's water management, reinforcing the commitment to sustainability and the conscious use of natural resources.
From a construction standpoint, the project combines metal structure with thermal insulation sealing systems and volumes in local stone masonry. The facades alternate between traditional light-colored plaster and exposed stone, while green roofs, integrated vegetation, high-performance window frames, and shading systems contribute to thermal comfort.
The bioclimatic strategy prioritizes passive solutions, such as natural ventilation and abundant lighting, complemented by active systems, including solar collectors for water heating. The result is a hotel that combines local identity, sustainability and spatial quality, offering a contemporary interpretation of Fournoi's vernacular architecture.
