The design of the Consolação Apartment stemmed from an intense exercise in prioritization. Originally, the 65m² floor plan suffered from excessive compartmentalization: two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a closed kitchen with laundry area, resulting in cramped and dysfunctional spaces.

Design Strategy: Through in-depth dialogue with the client about her routines and expectations, the architectural intervention opted for a radical redesign of the layout. Unnecessary walls were removed to create an integrated space that operates almost like a studio. This spatial generosity not only enhanced the feeling of well-being but also optimized the incidence of natural light throughout the apartment.

Carpentry and Layout Solutions: Spatial organization is defined by multifunctional elements:

A strategically placed piece of carpentry separates the living room from the bedroom without blocking the flow. It serves a dual purpose: as a display cabinet for the social area and a linen closet accessible from the bedroom.

A large countertop runs through the apartment, simultaneously serving as seating, a work surface, and a storage area (with storage compartments underneath), visually connecting the different spaces.

To maintain a clean aesthetic, the laundry area was incorporated into the kitchen, "hidden" in cabinets and a sink that are only revealed during use.

Materiality and Atmosphere: The project balances the new and the existing. The original parquet wood flooring (Damiro pattern) was restored, preserving the building's identity, and contrasts with the microcement applied in the wet areas. The bathroom was repurposed: it ceased to be a service area and became a "bathing room". In the living room, a projection screen embedded in the ceiling completes the design, transforming the room into an on-demand cinema.

Comfort and Sustainability: The infrastructure was modernized with a focus on thermal and acoustic comfort and energy efficiency. The fixtures and fittings, pieces from the client's personal collection, were brought in and integrated into the new design. The air conditioning system was concealed in the bathroom ceiling, efficiently distributing air to the living room and bedroom. Finally, the original windows were replaced with modern models offering superior thermal and acoustic performance.
